Renowned as one of the world’s toughest races for ultra-runners, the Ultimate Tsaigu unfolded on 20 April 2019 in extremely challenging weather on China’s Mount Kuocang.
Located in Zhejiang Province, 300km south of Shanghai, Mount Kuocang delivered a technical and challenging race in adverse weather for the international line-up. Athletes could choose the 50km, 80km or 110km distance options, with ninety-five percent of the route weaving around the stunning mountain trails, as well as passing through world famous tea plantations and a short distance on the Great Wall of China.
A gruelling race, the 110km distance includes a 7000m height gain and must be completed within 32 hours, with the 80km ascending up to 5000m in total and a 22 hour time limit. Top finishers gained valuable International Trail Running Association (ITRA) ranking points, and cash prizes to the podium places.
“The Ultimate Tsaigu is one of a kind, demands a lot from athletes and sets the bar extremely high,” commented Alkis Fakiris, ICARUS Sports Sales Manager. “ICARUS Sports is proud to have been selected as a media partner, providing a distribution package extending to over 160 nations worldwide.”
