The three-day Algarve Bike Challenge is a trail rider’s marathon paradise around the hills and rocky mountains of southern Portugal.
Starting in Tavira on 8 March 2019 with a 3km night prologue race, riders and fans can expect the leader’s jersey to change shoulders on the following two days as the contrasting conditions of each stage favour different riders. On day 2, the GPS guided race pitches riders against stunning tracks, as the 100km marathon stage heads up into the Serra do Caldeirão offering panoramic views over the coast, before the 85km ride on day 3 presents steep climbs and descents.
One thousand mountain entries are expected, and to date riders from over 22 nations have stamped their name on the finishers’ book of one of Europe’s foremost mountain bike events. As a UCI recognized race, the Algarve Bike Challenge is open to elite UCI riders who race in men and women divisions, as well as recreational and amateur riders over 19 years of age who race in six different categories and mixed teams.
2019 marks the third year of partnership between ICARUS Sports and the Algarve Bike Challenge, reinforcing the successful delivery of media services. A two-person media team will be on site managing production and distribution for TV news, social media highlights and inclusion in sports TV magazines.
“ICARUS Sports is delighted to be again returning to Portugal for the Algarve Bike Challenge,” commented Alkis Fakiris, Sales and Project Manager. “Our coverage, using a range of cameras and filming techniques, brings a new depth to mountain biking, as we and the riders take on the off-road terrain.”
