ICARUS Sports travelled to Saudi Arabia to participate to the 4th Saudi edition of the legendary Dakar Rally. A motorsport event like no other, where drivers race a muddy Marathon, facing not only the famous gigantic sand Dunes, but also harsh conditions, the clock and most importantly themselves.
Launched in 1979, the rally which connected Paris and the Senegalese capital, Dakar has now moved to Saudi Arabia, after having spent a decade in South America. The 45th edition of the Rally Dakar took off from the Red Sea, near Yanbu and finished in Dammam, on the Kingdom’s eastern sea border, 15 days later.
This year more than 200 participants stood on the starting line, among them the reigning champion Nasser Al-Attiyah, WRC legend Sebastien Loeb. But the list goes on! Kees Koolen, Francisco Lopez Contardo and Carlos Sainz also participated. The route featured 70% new tracks, less liaison and some 8,549km, of which 4,706km were raced against the clock.
ICARUS Sports fueled up on adrenaline and adventure and witnessed the amazing efforts of some really unique drivers all the way to the finish line. ICARUS Sports’ team of motorsport aficionados were part of the media team of the event, providing their skills and expertise to edit daily highlights videos from the event.
Manos Kampas, Sales Director at ICARUS Sports, stated, ”This was our second consecutive year being involved with the most prestigious rally in the world. It was a true honor for us, working with the local crews and being part of this incredible media team. We can’t wait for the next edition as this historic event keeps getting better every year”.
