ICARUS Sports will once more be heading to Ethiopia, the land of origins and the land of runners, and the magnificent city of Addis Ababa for the 21st edition of the 2021 Total Energies Great Ethiopian Run; first envisioned by Olympic legend Haile Gebrselassie, it is one of the world’s most famous marathon initiatives, and the biggest running event in Africa.
ICARUS Sports will be on the ground and will be responsible for the production and distribution of highlights and short videos for digital usage, the production and distribution of raw footage for TV usage, and the production and distribution of a wrap-up documentary. Lastly, highlights from the event will be included in our monthly TV Show, The Outdoor Sports Show, meaning guaranteed exposure in more than 160 countries.
The Total Energies Great Ethiopian Run comments, “In January 2021 we staged the 20th edition of the race with a decreased number of 12,500 runners instead of the usual 45,000 maximum prior to the pandemic. The race was special being our 20-year celebration, and being one of the few major running events staged post-pandemic in the world; by implementing all of the COVID19 precautionary measures set under the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and WHO. Having ICARUS Sports as an international partner at the time, the event signalled hope and shed light in a dark period, and gave us the opportunity to share this with the rest of the world. We are happy to once again be working with ICARUS Sports, not only to show that Ethiopia is the home of great athletes, but also home to the most hospitable people, and the host of the biggest race in Africa. We are ready to welcome you all“!
Manos Kampas, Sales Director at ICARUS Sports comments “We are very happy to once more be putting on our running shoes with the 2021 Total Energies Great Ethiopian Run. Back in January it signalled the gradual return to a post-pandemic world and gave everyone something to be positive about. Having worked with many major international running events, we aim to share this magnificent event across the globe“.
